Michael D. Donnellan

I am broadly interested in the natural history, evolution, and ecology of terrestrial and marine ecosystems. My research interests lie specifically in the population and community ecology of nearshore marine systems occurring in temperate to polar seas. My professional objective is to enhance understanding of these systems for their own sake and to facilitate more effective stewardship; as such, my approach is to conduct research that has both "pure" and applied components.

My thesis work at Moss Landing Marine Labs investigated the spatial and temporal patterns of kelp forest canopies in Central California using aerial photos and GIS technology. You can download an electronic copy of my thesis here.
